U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) made a surprise appearance at B-52 Burgers & Brew Thursday night to support the campaign of Minnesota Rep. Joe Atkins (DFL-District 52B).

Minnesota Sen. Jim Metzen (DFL-District 52) also showed up to lend his support for the Atkins campaign.

Klobuchar stopped by the Inver Grove Heights locale to catch up with her political colleagues, talk a bit about her time as a Hennepin County prosecutor and laud both Atkins and Metzen for their bipartisanship.

"I know a lot of Americans are tired of all the fighting in Washington and know Minnesotans are tired of it too. That's why these two (Atkins & Metzen) are in office—to make sure we put an end to partisan politics," Klobuchar told the crowd.

Following Klobuchar's speech, Atkins took a moment to thank his supporters, campaign contributors and Sens. Klobuchar and Metzen.

Atkins is pitted against Inver Grove Heights native Paul Tuschy in November's race for the House seat. Metzen will face GOP challenger Dwight Rabuse

A nice surprise...

An even bigger surprise was the unbelievable turnout at our Campaign Kick-Off. We were hoping for 150 people, maybe 200 if we got really lucky. We stopped counting at 450 people. It was amazing.

Thank you to all of the supporters, volunteers, friends and family who came by. I really appreciate it.

You need to move you BIG signs back further as it is obstructing on coming traffic view on 70th and CLAUDE! You have to pull out further into the intersection to see if someone is going to turn right on Claude from 70th or if you want to turn LEFT onto 70th from Claude...NOT GOOD! Could u please move it back further? It is dangerous

Thanks for letting me know, Julie. My sign crew wasn't available, so I went out and moved the sign myself. I hope you find it to be in a safer spot now; I moved it further back from the road and angled it.

In fairness to my sign crew, they originally placed it back from the road. The homeowner didn't like the location, so he moved the sign closer to the 70th.

By the way, thanks to everyone who stopped to help me tonight and to those who asked for a sign in their own yard. I wasn't expecting that.
