Mayor George Tourville announced Monday evening that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. 

He is scheduled to undergo surgery first thing Wednesday morning.

Doctors told Tourville that while they're unsure how advanced his condition is, he should expect a two- to three-month recovery period.

"It better go a lot faster than that," Tourville said in a phone call to Patch. 

Tourville also took a moment to give a piece of advice to all men. 

"My whole thing is for guys to make sure they get their annual physicals. Mine was detected during a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test. I know there is some controversy surrounding [PSA tests] but I had no symptoms."

Tourville also agreed to speak with Patch for a larger story about men's health following the procedure.
