I am in favor of this program, and have my certification. I am not familiar with the proposed area, but if it is close to those that oppose it, maybe there's an alternative solution. Perhaps you could build a larger berm, or put in a steel roof with the berm, or add sides to somewhat enclosed it. Just saying there may be a solution that makes everyone happy.

FWIW, when I did my training at the SSP Gun Club, we shot .22's, which were only allowed for that specific training. Otherwise, it's a shotgun only club. Everyone there already had firearm experience (kids included), and we shot into a berm. This is safety training, so everyone is extra cautious, but I know accidents can happen.

accidents can happen anywhere at any time. You can fall in a tub, drown at the lake, airbags may not offer the protection you hope, seatbelts fail, and so on. If this program can bring our community together, teach basic gun safety and keep our kids responsible, then bring it on! The city is being given something that isn't found in very many suburbs anymore, and that is land that has an abundance of possibilities. Don't give me the old story of wildlife being upset, believe me, they do adapt very well! Let's use common sense and level heads and give it a trial run. If after that trial is over it still isn't working, then scrap the idea. I think though that it may very well succeed. Is success something to fear?

There are plenty of gun places that offer gun safety classes that anyone can go to besides putting one in where people live within 70 feet of this proposed open air classroom. People and their pets are walking in this area and the first one that is shot because a kid accidentally drops his rifle will not care that there is an instructor standing next to and behind this kid, they will still be hurt or dead. I am not pleased with our city council for bringing this back to the table after it was clearly decided Grannises land would still be given for land purposes without the gun program and they went behind everyone's back and reissued an expired permit and back peddled it in again. Shame on you!

Let's hope the city council makes the right decision and reverses this decision. Vicki, people die in plane crashes, should planes be banned? In fact, more people die in plane crashes per year than they do in gun safety class. Should we quit flying then? The education is out there, this is a great resource, take advantage of the opportunity!
