PHOTOS: Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy Honors Its Best and Brightest

52 students at the Inver Grove Heights charter school earned academic achievement awards from the Northwest Evaluation Association.

Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy's academic achievement ceremony was a long one Wednesday. The Inver Grove Heights charter school simply had a lot of awards to hand out.

Honors were presented to students for their work in student council, for being top readers, for citizens of the year and for students of the year. Most prized were the awards saved for last—the academic achievment awards presented to 32 students on the Inver Grove Heights campus and 20 more on the Blaine campus—for scoring in the top 1 percent nationally on the Northwest Evaluation Association math, reading and science tests.

That was 52 students out of an enrollement of a little more than 500 students, noted Asad Zaman, the school's executive director and prinicpal.
