Simley Hockey Raised $1,000 for American Cancer Society
The boys hockey team raised $1,000 for the American Cancer Society during a "Coaches vs. Cancer" fundraising event.
During a Valentine's Day hockey game against South St. Paul, the Simley High School team raised $1,000 for the American Cancer Society, according to the team's Facebook page.
The fundraiser was part of "Coaches vs. Cancer," a nationwide initiative that has raised more than $87 million.
At its website, the Simley Hockey team explained why it chose to participate:
Most of us have been touched by cancer in some way or another. The boys hockey players along with their coaches and several volunteers are sponsoring Coaches vs. Cancer as a way to fight back against the disease that has taken too much. [The goal is] to bring awareness to the American Cancer Society’s efforts to save lives and creates a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

Kudos to the Simley hockey team for their efforts. They may have not had a great year on the ice, but this is a noble effort and greatly appreciated. Good job team, coaches and parents!
