Sports Roundup: Simley Wrestlers Place Eighth in Clash 10

Three other Spartan teams return to action after winter break tonight.

The Simley High School wrestling team took home eighth place out of 32 teams competing in the Clash 10 high school tournament in Rochester this past weekend.

The Spartans finished with a 3-3 dual record in the event, which featured 14 teams from the InterMat Fab 50 rankings of the top high school wrestling programs in the nation.

Simley ranks eighth in the InterMat poll.

On the tournament's first day—Dec. 30—Simley went 2-1 in dual matches. The Spartans defeated Rapid City Central (SD), 51-21; and St. Michael-Albertville, 39-21; then lost to Brandon (FL), 42-27, in the final match of the day.

In three tights matches on Dec. 31, Simley lost to Archbishop Moeller (OH), 33-27; defeated Christiansburg (VA), 39-27; and fell to St. Paris Graham (OH), 39-34.

The Spartans are back in action Jan. 6 and 7, when they compete in the 2012 Cheesehead tournament in Kaukauna, WI, near Appleton. There, they will face some of the top high school teams in the Upper Midwest.

Simley enters this weekend's tournament with an 11-3 dual-meet record.

This article is inaccurate. Simley wrestled 6 matches overall and went 3-3. This was the toughest high school dual meet in the nation and Simley, even though they lost some matches, proved again they are one of the 10 best teams in the nation. Pretty impressive.

Today, Jan 4, 2012, is Simley freshman, Jack Ryan's 15th birthday, As his Grandma, I am so proud of him as he is wrestling at 220 pounds and, as his Grandma, I feel he is doing awesome as a freshman. Happy birthday, Jack, and keep up the great work!

Wish Jack a fantastic birthday from Patch, Colleen! Jack and the entire Simley squad are having a great season so far, especially when you consider their competition. For instance, their tournament this weekend, the Cheesehead, again features a number of nationally ranked opponents.
