Original story (June 14, 2012): United States Marine Corps Private Cola Jensen, of South St. Paul, has died from complications of an illness while serving at Camp Pendleton (Calif.), according to longtime Jensen family friend Diane Baum.

Details of Jensen's Marine Corps service and untimely death are still unclear.

Cola Jensen graduated from Simley High School in 2011, where he was a member of the wrestling and cross county teams.

Cola's father, Kevin Jensen, is a teacher at Simley and coach of the middle school wrestling and track teams.

Funeral arrangements for Cola are still pending, Baum told Patch.

My daughter told me about this yesterday. Very sad. A few months ago, she came home from school (IGHMS) and was telling me about how some Marines were at Career Day, Pvt. Jensen was one of them. She said that they were the most interesting of all the people at career day. I want his family to know that thier son made a very positive impression on my daughter. Im sorry for your loss.

Thank you for your sentiments, MJB. I hope the Jensen's read your comment. Also, thank you to Simley HS Activities Director Will Short for the clarification. Private Jensen was serving in California, not overseas.

We are all very saddened when we lose any of our Inver Grove Heights younger people. It is even more sad when we lose one that is serving in our armed forces.
My families prayers go out to the family.

I have known Cola for over ten years, in that time we became very good friends. When I heard about his death i simply could not grasp it. He was always so strong. Cola was and always will be the nicest, most respectful young man i ever knew. It saddens me deeply to think that I will never see him again, I hope to attend the funeral service and pay my respects and offer my condolences. Cola will be sorely missed. Rest in peace my friend

I took care of Cola at Kids Choice all throughout his elementary school years. He was also my son's best friend. I think Cola had a best friend in everyone! My condolences go out to all who knew him, especially his dad, Kevin Jensen and to his older brother, Dmitri. May he rest in peace.

On WCCO's Saturday night news a brief came up about a young Minnesota marine who died. Then Cola's name was mentioned. Disbelief and denial that it was Cola Jensen, formerly of Le Center, came over me.
Kevin and Deema, my heartfelt condolences go out to you and those who Cola touched.

I'd just like to say a quick thank you to those of you who have left messages and condolences for Cola and the Jensens. I am certain there are hundreds more out there who sent their own messages in their own way. I did not know Cola but it's clear that he was a well-liked and well-respected member of Simley, Inver Grove Heights and the Marine Corps. I am certain the Jensens appreciate your words of kindness and support.

I've just been informed that Cola Jensen's visitation will happen 6/24 from 4-8 pm AND 6/25 from 10-11 am. It will be at the Church of St. Patrick NOT at Roberts Funeral Home. His funeral will be at 11 am on 6/25.
