Roll up your sleeves and prepare to get creative, because Inver Hills Community College is hosting its first ever Fine Arts Festival this weekend. “People don’t realize the hidden gem that we present,” said Doug Binsfeld, Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts at Inver Hills. “Our commitment to the fine arts on this campus is very strong.” The free festival begins April 19 and includes three full days of programming. Awesome Children’s Theater will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic by performing The Titanic, which opens today (March 8) at Simley Theater in Inver Grove Heights. “We try to do material that one normally doesn’t expect children to do,” said Rudd Rayfield, the show’s author and director, in reference to ACT. Rayfield penned The Titanic several years ago in the wake of the widespread popularity of the film, Titanic. This is ACT’s second incarnation of the show. 'The Shadow Box' premieres this weekend at the Inver Hills Fine Arts Theatre.
The Shadow Box is structured around the inevitability of death. However, this weekend the students of Inver Hills Community College will bring the play to life. A cast of nine student actors will perform Michael Christofer’s Pulitzer Prize winning character drama. The show explores hope, mortality and the importance of living life to its fullest. “I’m really proud of these actors,” said Jason Gonzalez, a theatre and film instructor at Inver Hills, and the show’s director. “I’m excited to see how it all comes together.” The story unfolds in three separate cottages on the grounds of a hospital.
