I want to publicly thank retiring City Council Members Bill Klein and Chip Grannis for their service to our community. They opted not to seek re-election in 2012 and are officially retiring from the IGH City Council this week.
I had a chance to serve on the IGH City Council with Bill and Chip when I was mayor and to work with them on a variety of projects over the years.
Both Bill and Chip have given thousands of hours of service to Inver Grove Heights. Their efforts go way beyond attendance at city council meetings. For example, Bill co-founded and chaired the community’s “Holiday on Main Street” celebration for 15 years. He is also active in many other organizations and community activities. Chip has helped out with just about every civic event in town, from IGH Days to the May Day 5K Walk/Run.
What I always liked best about volunteering with Chip and Bill is that they actually do stuff. All of our city council members are like that. They don’t just stand around giving orders. They are carrying picnic tables and setting up water stations. They are tending to details and doing the things others don’t want to do. Those are the kind of folks I like to work with.
While I didn’t agree with Bill and Chip on every issue that came before the city council, it was an honor for me to serve with them, and I wish them the best in the future. Thank you to both of them for all of their hours of service to our community.
I also wish incoming Council Members Tom Bartholomew and Jim Mueller the very best as they begin their service on the IGH City Council. Thank you for your willingness to serve our community. I look forward to working with you.
