BLOG: IGH—A Hiker's Paradise

So many great hikes, so little time.

Woods and ponds and prairies. That’s what I love about Inver Grove Heights.

Now don’t get me wrong—I like Applebee’s and Old World and the new Target, too. It’s nice to be able to go out for half-price apps at Applebee’s, enjoy the pizza buffet at Old World, and buy a pair of socks in town.

But what really makes Inver Grove unique compared to so many other suburbs is our open space, wetlands and woods. This is especially meaningful if you enjoy the outdoors.

We have so many great spots in town to experience. From scenic walks along the Pine Bend bluffs to miles of trails through city parks, from hiking in Harmon Preserve to shorter walks like the Rock Island Swing Bridge and Mississippi River Park, there is something for just about every taste.

A column back in July talked about the 10 most scenic spots in IGH, but there are many more outdoor gems scattered throughout the community. For example, the wooded trails at Marianna Ranch in southern IGH offer a great walk, as does Rich Valley Park. And the possibility of a nature preserve bodes well for the future.

Even though the snow may soon fly, there's still time to get out and enjoy some great fall walks in this hiker's paradise.
