Get Out: Holiday Events in and Around Inver Grove Heights
Looking for things to do this weekend? Check out some of these holiday-themed ideas.
When/Where: 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16 at
Why Go: Santa is coming to Veterans Memorial Community Center on skates! Spend some time twirling around the ice with Santa and your family. Come dressed in red or green and you will get a special prize. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided.
Cost: $5
When/Where: 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 at along 70th Street in Inver Grove Heights.
Why Go: Search for a sleigh full of candy canes along the trails in North and South Valley Parks. There will be tons of candy canes hidden throughout the park. Find the "golden" candy cane and win a special prize. Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies following the hunt.
Cost: $2
- Holiday on Main Street
When/Where: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Community Center
Why Go: Join city officials, elected officials and business owners for a free afternoon of music, food, games, arts and crafts, humvee rides, crazy hair, balloon artistry, facepainting, raffle toy drawing and more. The event will include a visit from Santa and a bicycle donation to families.

- Holiday Lights Trolley Tours
When/Where: 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17. Trolley rides leave from Veterans Memorial Community Center.
Why Go: See outstanding holiday dispays in the community as part of a trolley tour. Trolley rides will depart every 30 minutes from the community center. Ticket can be obtained from the city's Parks and Recreation Office, Veterans Memorial Community Center or ACE Hardware.
Cost: Tickets are free. Children under the age of 2 do not need a ticket.
When/Where: All day on Friday, Dec. 16; Saturday, Dec. 17; and Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul.
Why Go: The flower show is a visual sensation to behold, and features hundreds of poinsettias. This year, the Sunken Garden will take on a frosty, icy theme showcasing two-toned splashed poinsettia cultivars of Ruby Frost, Ice Punch, Premium Ice Crystals along with a sizzling floral spectrum of traditional reds such as Bravo Red, Viking Red, Encore Red, Red Glitter & Jubilee Red.
