Get Out: Weekend Events in and Around Inver Grove Heights

- Huck Finn Fishing Derby
When/Where: 6:30 to 8pm at Simley Island Park in Inver Grove Heights
Why Go: Cast a line at Simley Island Park as part of the city's annual fishing derby. Contests will be held for largest fish, smallest fish and most fish caught, not too mention casting competitions and more! Prizes are awarded for tournament winners and each participant receives a fishing goodie bag.
Cost: $5 per person
- 7th Annual Simley High School Dance Team Golf Fundraiser
Where/When: Registration at 7:45am on Saturday, with a shotgun start at 8am at Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings.
Why Go: Lend a helping hand to the Simley dance team, which uses the annual, 18-hole shotgun golf scramble tournament to subsidize team classes, training, coaches salaries, uniform costs and tournament expenses.
Cost: Donations accepted.
- City of Mendota Heights 5k Run/Walk
Where/When: 9am on Saturday at the Village at Mendota Heights.
Why Go: All proceeds from the race, which is sponsored by Gateway Bank, go to the Special Olympics. Prizes in three categories: Ages 19 and under, 20-49 and 50 or older.
Cost: Pre-register by June 3 for $20. Registration at the race is $25.
- Blacksmith for a Day
When/Where: 1pm to 4pm on Saturday at Fort Snelling State Park.
Why Go: Join the skilled tradesmen of the historic Fort Snelling to try blacksmithing under the direction of the smith. You'll select a project, work the forge, pound out the hot metal, and shape the iron using hammer and tongs as it was done two centuries ago. Participants will be able to take their finished projects home. Children ages 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult.
Cost: $40 per participant
- Nature's Gym
When/Where: 9:30 to 11am on Saturday at Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan.
Why Go: Join a certified strength and conditioning coach as he shares beginner tips and techniques for using nature as a gym.
