Get Out: Weekend Events in and around Inver Grove Heights

Looking for things to do this weekend? Check out some of these ideas.

  • Dakota County Fair
    When/Where?
       Hours vary depending on event/exhibit; see the schedule at http://www.dakotacountyfair.org/2011_Dakota_County_Fair_Schedule.pdf. Gate Admissions are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays through Saturday, Aug. 13 and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14. at the Dakota County Fairgrounds in Farmington.
    Why Go?
      Be sure to “Come Out and Play” at the great Dakota County get-together—the Dakota County Fair. Fair events include live concerts, a carnival with midway rides, lumberjack shows, grandstand events, livestock shows and contests, a historical village, a wide variety of live demonstrations and (of course) lots of food.
    Price:
    Daily gate admission is $5 for adults or $2 for children 6-12 and seniors 60 and over. Parking is $5 per day.
  • Irish Fair of Minnesota
    When/Where?
    3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13; and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14, at Harriet Island in St. Paul.
    Why Go?
    The Irish Fair of Minnesota celebrates the heritage and culture of Ireland, offering all kinds of entertainment. Several styles of Irish music will be presented on three stages. Visitors will also enjoy Gaelic football games, rugby matches and sheep herding on the event’s Sports Field, as well as Irish food and drink, cultural activities, a marketplace, a Native Dogs of Ireland showcase, and a variety of unique competitions.
    Price: Free admission
  • IndiaFest
    When/Where?
    Noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the St. Paul Capitol Grounds, 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
    Why Go?
    IndiaFest (formerly known as the Festival of India) celebrates India’s rich culture and heritage, giving visitors the unique opportunity to learn about the Asian nation and the Indian-American community in Minnesota. Presented by the India Association of Minnesota (IAM), the event showcases live Indian music, classical and modern Bollywood dances, cultural entertainment programs, interactive Yoga, flavorful food from various parts of India, heritage exhibits, merchandise booths and more.

    Free admission and parking
  • Busy Bees
    When/Where?
    1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Dodge Nature Center in West St. Paul.
    Why Go?
    Learn all about the honeybee while you follow it from hive to flower, and back to the hive. You’ll observe the inner workings of an active hive, learn the beekeeper’s process for extracting honey from the honeycomb and enjoy tasting the sweet product of the busy honeybee’s efforts. Pre-registration is preferred; you can register online at http://www.dodgenaturecenter.org.
    Price:
    For non-members: $7 for children and adults or $20 for families. For members: $5 for children and adults or $15 for families. Free for children ages two and under.
  • Craft Fair
    When/Where
    ? 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Dakota County Library at Rosemount.
    Why Go?
    Kids (ages 4 to 17) with a talent for arts and crafts can have fun selling their handicrafts at the library. All items must be priced for less than $2, and sellers must register in advance.

  • Summer Reading Finale with Clementown
    When/Where?
    10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Dakota County Library at Eagan.
    Why Go?
    Celebrate the end of another fun Summer Reading Program, and enjoy an event for all ages with live, outdoor music inspired by the poetry and art of Calef Brown, illustrator and author.
