Moms Talk: What to Do When Your Children Are Bullied

As a parent, how do you handle situations where your child has been bullied, or is bullying another student.

Roughly 13 million students, or one-third of all school-age children in the United States, are bullied each year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

Bullying is no longer confined to the schoolyard or classrooms, either. The advent of social networking means that students can experience bullying online via Facebook, Myspace or other sites.

Last week, President Obama First Lady Michelle Obama, the Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services met with students, teachers and non-profit leaders at the White House as part of a Conference on Bullying Prevention. To coincide with the conference, Patch thought it would be helpful to address bullying in Moms Talk, our weekly discussion forum for parents.
