Risk for Storms in Twin Cities this Weekend, Dakotas See First Snowfall
A massive storm system is moving across the Plains and headed toward Minnesota tonight. While it's meant snow (yes, snow) in western South Dakota, it means thunderstorms for Minnesota.
The National Weather Service in Chanhassen hasn't issued any watches or warnings for the Twin Cities Metro area yet, but chances are there for some late-season severe weather to hit the southern tip of the suburbs this weekend.
A more likely area to see some thunderstorms, hail and high winds is targeted just down U.S. Highway 61 or U.S. Highway 51 in southwestern Minnesota.
Whether we see stormy weather or not, it will rain tonight. Most areas have a 75 to 80 percent chance of showers tonight and into tomorrow. The weather should dry out, it appears, Sunday for those looking for some outdoors time this weekend.
It could be worse. Areas in western North Dakota and South Dakota saw the first snowfall of the season Friday, Oct. 4. And not only did it snow, some areas had blizzard conditions, forcing the closing of Interstate 90 in the Black Hills of South Dakota. No travel was advised in Rapid City, the state's second-largest city.
