Storms Carrying Heavy Rain, Small Hail and Wind Hit Twin Cities

A strong band of thunderstorms is making its way eastward toward the Twin Cities Thursday morning. Some cities out in Wright County have reported small hail, high winds and heavy rainfall.

UPDATED: Heavy rain and some wind roared through the Twin Cities Thursday, knocking out power in northwestern suburbs and dropping small hail on communities around the Twin Cities.

According to radar, a strong band of storms built up over Central Minnesota early this morning and made its way from west to east. Several areas reported more than 2 inches of rain, with almost 3 inches falling near Big Lake, up in Sherburne County.

About .20 inches fell on Inver Grove, giving local lawns a much-needed shot of moisture.

The good news? Behind it is a mass of cool, dry air which should bring fall back to the region just in time for the weekend. Temps Friday and Saturday should hit the mid-60s, with lows in the mid-40s. The high for Sunday and Monday is right around 70, with continued dry air.
