Summer Activities and Safety Fair Scheduled Tonight

Meet with representatives from more than 70 agencies and organizations to learn about public safety and summer recreation and education opportunities.

The Early Childhood Family Education Program of the Inver Grove Heights and South St. Paul public schools are hosting the 21st annual Summer Activities and Safety Fair Thursday evening.

Held from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Veterans Memorial Community Center, the fair is an opportunity to learn about ongoing safety issues and upcoming summer activities that will help keep your family safe.

Talk with fire fighters, nurses and public safety specialists representing more than 70 organizations, or watch a demonstration from a police canine unit. Join other young children and families to learn about swimming pool information, library programs, scouting programs, Community Education, parks and recreation, nature and garden programs, nutrition information and more. Pick up information about fire, water, boat, car seat and child safety.

Explore an ambulance, police car, fire truck, school bus and boat, plus a car from MADD, which will be parked on site. If that isn't enough, children can also practice emergency procedures in the State Fire Marshall’s Safe Escape House and the Residential Sprinkler House, or have fun in the Fire Safety Hopper with Inver Grove Heights Fire Department. Several organizations will have registration for summer programs available.

Finally, children and families can meet Sparky the Fire Dog, Smokey the Bear, the St. Paul Saints Mudonna and the American Red Cross Bee Safe Bear at the safety fair, which is free and open to the public.
