Wakota Bridge Closures Will Snarl Local Freeway Traffic Starting Friday Night

Closures tonight and Monday will slow things around the Mississippi River crossing.

Motorists will continue to encounter lane and ramp closures on the Interstate 494/Wakota Bridge spanning the Mississippi River as crews continue sealing the bridge deck.

At 10 p.m. Sept. 20, westbound I-494 between Bailey Road and Hardman Avenue will be reduced to two lanes. At the same time, the northbound and southbound ramps from Highway 61 to westbound I-494 will close.

Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour using eastbound I-494, westbound I-94 and westbound I-494.

The closures continue because of unfavorable weather conditions.

In addition, the ramps from Maxwell Avenue and Highway 61 to westbound I-494 are expected to re-open by 5 a.m., Monday, Sept. 23. As soon as the Maxwell Avenue ramp re-opens, the westbound I-494 ramp to Hardman Avenue is expected to close for several days.
