Hey, It's Windy Out Today!

Inver Grove Heights and the rest of the Twin Cities metro area is under a Windy Advisory through midnight tonight.

Hey, it’s windy out there this afternoon!

Inver Grove Heights and the rest of the Twin Cities metropolitan area remain under a Wind Advisory that the National Weather Service issue at 6 a.m. Sunday.

As of 4:30 p.m. Sunday, winds out of the northwest were being reported in the 30-to-40 mile-per-hour range throughout the Twin Cities. Weather observers in St. Paul, Crystal and Eden Prairie reported gusts of 46 miles per hour.

With the brisk winds, the metro area is experiencing wind chills in the single digits above zero today.

Add the winds to the inch or two of snow that Inver Grove and the rest of the Twin Cities received New Year’s Eve, and it almost seems like winter in these parts. The weather service is predicting January-like temperatures for tonight and tomorrow, but a return to unseasonably warm temperatures in the 30s for the rest of the first week of 2012.

STATE PATROL BUSY

New Year’s Eve’s combination of rain and snow led to a number of crashes on metro-area roads, according to State Patrol figures.

Between 6 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m., the state patrol recorded 54 car crashes, including 11 with injuries; 68 vehicles that spun out or went off the road; and nine drunken driving arrests. No fatal crashes were reported statewide by the state patrol.
