IGH Woman Ranked Among Top Women in Business

IGH resident Jennifer Hellman balances work and family with a divide and conquer approach

Jennifer Hellman—chief operating officer at Goff Public and four-year resident of Inver Grove Heights—was recently named one of Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's Top 25 Women to Watch for 2012.

According to the publication, women are selected for their "professional achievements, leadership qualities, drive, and their potential to be in the spotlight for years to come."

Hellman has been with Goff Public for 14 years, where she acts as a company leader, manages 12 employees and helps set the direction of the firm. She also serves on the board of directors for the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies and the Minnesota Retailer’s Association

Despite her obvious professional achievements her success has come at a cost, Hellman admitted to Patch in a moment of candor.

"As all working parents know, it’s not easy to juggle a career and a family," Hellman said. "I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I had to sacrifice family to build a career, but I haven’t had the luxury of unlimited time with them."

Hellman chalks part of her success—both professional and familial—up to a supportive partner and keen strategic planning.

"My husband and I work together as a team so that both of us have adequate time to do our jobs and spend with our kids—(we use) the divide and conquer approach."

Hellman's son Trey is a third-grader at in Eagan and her younger son Lewis is scheduled to begin kindergarten there this Fall.

Hellman appears to enjoy the same level of support professionally as she does at home.

"Jennifer is well-deserving of this award," Goff Public CFO Heidi Larson said. "From day one, Jennifer has approached public relations with an energy, excitement and inquisitiveness that has helped her become not only an instrumental member of Goff Public’s team, but also a number of our clients’ communications teams."
