Health & Fitness

by what standard do you measure yourself?

I am going to give you a list...see if you can detect a pattern here: Oprah Winfrey. Melissa McCarthy. Roseanne. Wynonna Judd. Kim Kardashian. among others...
And here's another: John Goodman. Jackie Gleason. Jay Leno. James Gandolfini (may he rest in peace.) Oliver Hardy. among others....
Give up?
They are all folks we all know or have heard of who have or are living life on the large size. Sadly enough....it's the WOMEN who get picked on in the media on a DAILY basis!
People magazine has just named Gwyneth Paltrow as the Most Beautiful Woman in the World! The WORLD! Wow! What an honor! She is also so thin (in my opinion), so what is that telling us? That if we want to be considered "the most beautiful" we have to eat a bunny diet? And why aren't guys picked on? In the case of James Gandolfini, it was mentioned that he was "large." The word "overweight" wasn't used...at least not in the news sources I was listening to. John Goodman is always called a teddy bear. You may have heard about Al Roker, the CBS weatherman who had gastric bypass surgery recently, but nothing more has been mentioned about it, but oh. my. goodness. Kim Kardashian! "OMG! Just LOOK at her! So FAT!"  It's plastered on the news....in magazines....even talked about on the radio.
Is this news? Her weight?
Is this also why our daughters are so worried about weight that they become anorexic/bulimic? Why does our society care so much about outward beauty?
I have always said that true beauty comes from within. It is how we care for others, how we live our lives with compassion in our hearts and a strong desire to see others happy first that determines who we are...not the type of makeup we wear, the clothes we buy, the shoes we have. It's who we are! I have seen so called "beautiful people" with the worst attitudes on display...and the "plain Joes and Janes" who have so many friends. I also see how those folks live out their days and nights and believe me, it isn't stepping out of a limo with cameras snapping away! It's how they live to make another feel beautiful. They know it is NOT all about themselves--but others.
Look at how you regard yourself...then make a change for the better. You are beautiful...you certainly do not need Revlon or a pair of Guess jeans to make it so.
