Blotter: Would-Be Burglar Claimed he was with Police

Several burglaries and an armed robbery call were also recorded in the Inver Grove Heights police reports for Nov. 19-25

Nov. 18

9:30 p.m.—Police responded to a fifth-degree domestic assault on the 8000 block of Delano Way E.

10:10 a.m.—Police responded to a found property/drugs call on the 9100 block of Rich Valley Blvd.

1:13 a.m.—Police responded to a disturbing the peace call on the 5300 block of Audubon Ave.

2:14 a.m.—Police responded to a suicide attempt on the 2500 block of 49th St. E.

3:26 p.m.—Police responded to a report of a theft at on the 7800 block of Cahill Ave. Police spoke to a store loss prevention officer, who told police that he observed a 32-year-old woman walk out of a store with two half hams and a box of fried chicken without paying. A short while later, the same officer saw the woman take two tilapia filets and walk out without paying. At that point, the loss prevention officer stopped the woman and escorted her to his office. While police were interviewing the loss prevention officer, the woman allegedly yelled out "I made a mistake," and "I'm really sorry." The store recovered the stolen goods, valued at nearly $100, but told police the food could not be sold once it left the store and would be thrown out.

8:21 p.m.—Police responded to a noise complaint on the 6100 block of Carmen Ave. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with a woman, who complained about the loud volume of her neighbor's bass. The officer went the residence in question and spoke with a woman who lived there. When told she couldn't play her music so loud, the woman began swearing and yelling at the officer, which prompted several other people in the apartment to do the same. During the disturbance, several people accused the officer of being racist and hurled insults at the neighbor who reported the loud music. Once the group calmed down, the officer left, only to be called back to the scene by the neighbor, who said the group was now yelling at her and threatening her through the walls of her apartment. Several officers arrived at the scene to deal with the group, who refused to allow police into their apartment and again accused the officers of being racist. Police eventually cited the 26-year-old apartment tenant with disorderly conduct.

Nov. 21

7 a.m.—Police responded to a first-degree burglary incident on the 5300 block of Audobon Ave.

8 a.m.—Police responded to a disorderly conduct incident on the 2000 block of Upper 55th St.

8:41 p.m.—Police responded to an assault call on the 3400 block of 78th St. E.

Nov. 22

10:07 p.m.—Police were dispatched to the McDonalds on the 5700 block of Cahill Ave. after a witness called in to report a driver in the drive-through window smelled of alcohol. Police found a vehicle matching the description given by the suspect on Upper 55th Street, and a police cruiser tailing the vehicle saw it swerve across the center line. Police pulled the driver over in the parking lot of an apartment building. The driver had significant trouble putting his vehicle into park, and stumbled when he exited the car. Police administered a breath test on the driver, whose blood-alcohol level registered at .263. The 37-year-old was arrested.

Nov. 23

1 p.m.—Police responded to a report of a burglary on the 7800 block of Boyd Ave. E.

1:25 p.m.—Police responded to a report of a burglary on the 1100 block of 82nd St. E. A homeowner told officers she was napping at home when a young male broke through her front door and yelled "police" several times. When she confronted him, he fled to a small, dark-colored car. Police found broken glass around a storm door in the front of the house. At the time of the report, there were no suspects.

2:45 p.m.—Police responded to a report of a burglary on the 2700 block of 75th St. E.

Nov. 24

2:02 a.m.—Police were dispatched to on a report that the driver of a party bus wanted a rowdy passenger removed. The driver told an officer that while he was driving, one of the occupants opened the emergency door. At the time, the driver scolded the occupant. A short time later, another occupant hit his hand on the front windshield of the bus, causing the glass to crack. The driver told officers he decided to pull over at Jersey's to have the passenger removed.

7:30 p.m.—Police responded to a report of an armed robbery on the 6300 block of Concord Blvd. E.

9:04 p.m.—Police responded to a report of a domestic assault on the 7600 block of Banning Way.

Nov. 25

4:30 p.m.—Police responded to a report of stalking on the 8600 block of Beverly Way.
