Temperatures in the low- to mid-90s are expected next week. The prolonged heat and humidity has caused the National Weather Service to issue an excessive heat watch.

The National Weather Service has issued a four-day excessive heat watch for Sunday through Wednesday of next week. Temperatures in the low- to mid-90s and high humidity will spread across east central Minnesota on Sunday, the weather service predicts, with afternoon heat indices cresting above 100 degrees.

"The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely," the service said in its report. The weather service recommends that people caught in the heat wave drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and remain out of the sun.
