Get Out: Weekend Events in and around Inver Grove Heights

  • St. Paul Dragon Festival, St. Paul
    When/Where?
    10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat. July 9 and Sun. July 10 at Lake Phalen Park in St. Paul.
    Why Go?
    The 15th annual Dragon Festival is a family-oriented, nonprofit event that showcases and celebrates the diverse Asian Pacific cultural heritage found in the Twin Cities. The two-day celebration includes a showcase of traditional dances, martial arts exhibitions and music, as well as ethnic food, children’s activities, cultural merchandise and more. The popular Dragon Boat races take place throughout the weekend.
    Price:
    Free admission, parking and entertainment.

 

  • Kayak Demo
    When/Where?
    1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat. July 9 at Schulze Lake Beach at Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan.
    Why Go? 
    Have fun test paddling kayaks on Schulze Lake with Midwest Mountaineering and receive a gift certificate. This activity is for participants ages 16 and older.       $5 per person.

 

  • Turbo Kick Classes
    When/Where?
    4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sun. July 10 through Sun. July 31, at Central Square in South St. Paul.
    Why Go?
    Turbo Kick is an interval-based cardio kickboxing class that combines basic punches and kicks with other fun and effective moves, and sets it all to great music, according to the South St. Paul Parks and Recreation Department’s fitness class brochure. The class alternates between lower impact movements utilizing large muscle groups and higher energy movements that get the heart pumping.       The entire session is $17 for members or $22 for non-members. Individual drop-in fees are $5 for members and $7.50 for non-members.

  • Kettle Bell Classes
    When/Where?
    5:30 to 6:20 a.m. on Fridays from July 8 through Aug. 26, or 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. on Saturdays from July 9 through Aug. 27 at Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights.
    Why Go?

  • Summer Break Tennis
    When/Where?
      9 a.m. every Saturday from July 9 through Aug. 6 at Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Heights
    Why Go?
    According to TriDistrict Community Ed, this is a "Drill & Play" program that gives beginner tennis players—or former tennis players who have taken a long time off—a fun and friendly environment in which to learn. Every session begins with specific drills to hone a skill or tactic, followed by match play at the end. Programs will be customized to fit your playing level and lifestyle. All tennis balls are provided but be sure to bring your favorite racket.
    Price:
    $59 for the entire session.
