Get Out: Weekend Events in and around Inver Grove Heights

Looking for things to do this weekend? Check out some of these ideas.

  • Summer Concert Series:  Public NewSense
    When/Where?
      7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, at the Ampitheater at 365 Marie Ave. W. in West St. Paul (in inclement weather, concert will be moved to the Farm Education Building at 1701 Charlton St.).
    Why Go? 
    Watch and listen to live music by the talented group of teenage jazz players, Public NewSense, and enjoy a warm summer evening with Dodge's beautiful prairie and the sunset as a backdrop. Gather the family and bring a picnic or purchase refreshments there. Pre-registration is encouraged, and the event is open to all ages. You can register online at http://www.dodgenaturecenter.org.

  • Relay for Life in South St. Paul
    When/Where?
    Opening ceremony will be held 7 p.m., Luminaria lighting will be held 9 p.m. and a silent auction will take place from 4-11 p.m. on Friday Aug. 5 to Sat. Aug. 6. The event will be held at Lincoln Elementary School in South St Paul.
    Why Go?
    Participants have a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember lost loved ones, and fight back against the disease at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. According to the event website, various teams camp out at the event location, and team members take turns walking or running around a track or path at all times during the event. Relays are overnight events that last up to 24 hours – because cancer never sleeps.

    $10 general registration/commitment fee (per

  • Mother and Child Fishing
    When/Where?
    2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Holland Lake Picnic Shelter at Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan.
    Why Go?
    Spend time with your child, or a child in your life, while enjoying an afternoon of fishing. You’ll also create a unique “fish print” t-shirt to bring home. All equipment will be provided for this event. Children must be ages five or older, and an adult must accompany youth under 18.

  • Voice of Culture Drum and Dance
    When/Where?
      6:30 p.m. on Sunday Aug. 7 at Caponi Art Park, 1220 Diffley Road in Eagan.
    Why Go?
    Voice of Culture Drum and Dance’s unique concert will be both rich in cultural history and relevant to contemporary generations, according to the Caponi Art Park’s website. Voice of Culture's performance will showcase West African arts and culture by covering a timeline of music spanning the ancient song and dance from Africa to modern Afro-Hip-Hop in the United States.
    Price:
    Free; a $4 donation is suggested.

 

  • Trees of Minnesota
    When/Where?
    9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Holland Lake Picnic Shelter at Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan.
    Why Go?
    In this course for ages 16 and older, you’ll learn all about Minnesota’s native trees and be able to identify them.
    Price:
