Inver Grove Heights Week in Review April 17 through April 24

Here's what you may have missed over the last week on Inver Grove Heights Patch:

The of Inver Grove Heights native and U.S. Army Spc. Joseph Kennedy in Afghanistan dominated local news this week. Kennedy was killed on April 15 in the Ghazni province of Afghanistan, after his unit came under small arms fire from insurgents. For a gallery of family photos of the deceased solder, click here.

Patch at a new, recession-related trend: More than ever, the unemployed or under-employed in the Twin Cities are receiving support from local churches, who are organizing networking and job transition groups.

Patch also profiled a pair of Community Ed courses this week that are having an impact on local students. The first, , teaches students the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. The second, at the Inver Grove Heights Middle School, is tackling poor eating habits, one recipe at a time.

The real-estate market garned some press time this week, after the Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors for Inver Grove Heights and the Twin Cities as a whole. The picture is grim, but local realtors and industry specialists say there is some silver lining.
