Inver Grove Heights Week in Review Feb. 28 to March 6

Patch looks back on the events, people and issues that made the headlines last week.

The state wrestling and swimming tournaments dominated the headlines for Inver Grove Heights Patch this week.

The Simley High School wrestling team took home its fourth consecutive state championship on Thursday, after winning three back-to-back matches, including a tough battle against a hard-working Scott West team. Four Simley wrestlers also won individual state titles on Saturday.

The Simley boys swim team also met with considerable success at the state meet this weekend at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The team placed sixth, led by Alec Kandt, who broke two school records and set three lifetime best times at the meet. Simley's Carter Lange also placed 10th at the state diving meet.

More than 100 parents and community members also attended an Inver Grove Heights School Board meeting on Monday, as school officials discussed a series of proposed budget cuts, including a complete reconfiguration of both Salem Hills and Hilltop Elementary Schools. Parents voiced a number of concerns over the idea, which district officials say could improve student achievement and help the district cope with No Child Left Behind sanctions.
