Inver Grove Heights Week in Review May 2 Through May 8

Patch looks back on the events, people and issues that made the headlines last week.

The most popular story on Inver Grove Heights Patch this week came from the political arena. District 39B Rep. Joe Atkins that would ban gay marriage in Minnesota, calling the measure poorly timed and an unnecessary distraction from the state's budgetary woes.

But Atkins statement wasn't the only news story that caught the eye of readers: An to open a new liquor store at the Salem Square Shopping Center in Inver Grove Heights. Two weeks ago, the Inver Grove Heights City Council issued a liquor license for the venture.

Patch had plenty of videos from the community this week. Check out on the swimming and diving event hosted by Simley High School varsity swimmers, who are helping train a younger generation of swimming enthusiasts. Patch also to Inver Hills Community College on Thursday, when the college held a free electronics recycling event.

A local church pastor also made headlines this week, after he was charged with from the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Church Synod over three years. Leon Piepenbrink now faces seven felony charges.
