Winter Wallop: Dakota County Escapes the Worst

Traffic accidents were scarce as Inver Grove Heights dodged another winter bullet overnight.

As the region woke up to two inches of slush, Inver Grove Heights residents prepared for an unpleasant commute. While areas twenty miles north of the Twin Cities were buried under up to a foot of snow, Dakota County escaped the worst of the storm.

Police Lt. Sean Folmar said there had been two minor accidents overnight in Inver Grove Heights. One car ran into a ditch, another skidded off the road. No serious injuries were noted.

Folmar said city crews were out clearing intersections. He stated traffic on the main roads was moving well, and expected conditions to improve as the day goes on.

“For us, it’s been pretty uneventful this morning,” said Dakota County Sheriff Dave Bellows. He had not received reports of anything worse than cars sliding into ditches.

“People are driving with due regard,” said Bellows. But even though temperatures were above freezing this morning, he warned that ice can still form at intersections and on bridges.
