BLOG: Golf Ball Sized Hail Damages Homes in Inver Grove Heights
Some things to be aware of before contracting to have your hail damaged home repaired
Golf ball sized hail went through IGH on Saturday. It's possible that your roof, siding, and other parts of your home were damaged by this hail.
If you suspect that your home has been damaged, call your homeowners insurance company right away. They will send out an adjuster for an inspection to determine if any damage has occurred.
BEWARE: Storms like this bring "storm chasers" out of the woodwork. These folks usually knock on your door and ask you if they can inspect your roof for hail damage. They may also ask you to sign a form that "gives them permission to look at your roof."

REALITY: These storm chasers are usually out-of-state roofers who often have no insurace coverage. If they fall off of your roof and injure themselves during their free inspection, they can sue your homeowners insurace for their injuries, and THEY WILL WIN.
REALITY: The permission slip that they are asking you to sign is most likely a contract for roof replacement. By signing, you are agreeing to let them work on your roof regardless of whether or not your insurace covers it.

These tactics are against the law in Minnesota, but most homeowners don't realize until it's too late.
Stick with a local contractor with a good reputation and a good warranty on thier work. Your insurance company can usually refer you to restoration contractors that they have worked with and trust.
