Hanukkah begins Saturday evening, marking eight nights of celebration for Jews. The holiday marks an improbable military victory over the Greeks and the reclamation of the holy temple in Jerusalem during the 2nd century BCE.
Adults and children from throughout the metro, including students at Talmud Torah in St. Paul and members of Beth Jacob Congregation in Mendota Heights, will be celebrating the holiday.
Beth Jacob has several activities planned throughout the week:
Monday, Dec. 10: 5:15 p.m. at Talmud Torah of St. Paul; 7:15 p.m. at Beth Jacob Congregation
Join the three Rabbis of Beth Jacob Congregation for a practical & textual exploration of light and hope as we near the darkest time of year. Come make an oil lamp that you can take home, enjoy Hanukah treats, and learn with the Rabbis the power of light & hope in the darkness.
Wednesday, Dec. 12: 4-7 p.m. at the St. Paul JCC!
Community-wide Hanukah Gym Jam. Join 2-6 Graders from across St. Paul to play games, sing songs, eat snacks, and light candles to celebrate Hanukah together at the St. Paul JCC!
Saturday, Dec. 15: 6:30 p.m.
Beth Jacob Hanukkah Dinner. Come light your Hanukiah and join together for a community dinner, followed by musical entertainment by Vanessa Dembo & Mark Bloom of Kanvenessence, and a special, fun edition of Hanukah Zumba for everyone!
