Inver Grove Heights Middle School Veterans' Day Event
I have to be honest, this has been by far one of the most heartfelt events I have attended, and it was a true privilege to be invited.
This was a special event for the middle school not only to honor past and present veterans, but to also honor former Simley High School graduate Cola Jenson who was a Marine.
It made me really happy to be there when I saw how excited the principal and staff were to have us there. We were invited to lead the Pledge of Allegiance with a Marine officer at the beginning of the ceremony.

After a young student recited a poem, and a speech from Joe Atkins, a memorial picture was presented to the family of Cola Jenson. The presentation was so beautifully done that I was, along with many others, honestly moved to tears.
Before we left I had the opportunity to meet some of the Marines that attended, and thanked them for their service. I also met Cola Jenson’s father and brother and after hearing them talk about Cola, I really felt like I had known him myself.
