Simley Girls Soccer: Working Hard in the Classroom and Community, Not Just on the Field

At last night’s soccer banquet, the award that impressed me the most had nothing to do with soccer.

As one would expect, there were a lot of soccer-related awards and honors handed out at the Simley High School girls soccer banquet on Nov. 5.

The award that impressed me the most, however, had nothing to do with soccer.

Coach Cassie Husemann announced that this year’s Simley girls soccer team had the highest grade point average during her coaching tenure, earning a statewide academic award from the Minnesota State High School League.

With a remarkable team GPA of 3.70, including half a dozen girls with perfect 4.0’s, this is a team that obviously works hard in the classroom, not just on the field. Moreover, many of them are taking the most rigorous courses available at Simley, with a full-plate of college prep, honors and AP classes.

If that were not mpressive enough, IGH Patch has also called attention to this group’s commitment to our community.

During Inver Grove Heights Days, more than a dozen Simley soccer players volunteered to help me with our annual Parade Food Drive, helping us top the 25,000-pound in donations for our local food shelf.

The Simley girls soccer team also helps with instruction of younger players, and just about all of them volunteer in a variety of other activities around town.

Congratulations, and thank you, to the Simley girls soccer team—not just for your hard work on the field—but in the classroom and community as well.
