Service Project

There is nothing that can bring a sense of comfort like a teddy bear. I had to take an ambulance to the hospital when I was little and I remember how scared I was until the EMT gave me a teddy bear to hold on to. Though I was still afraid, the bear made me feel better and safer during the ride.  Over the course of the year, I have been collecting new and gently used stuffed animals to donate at the end of my reign to bring that sense of comfort to others.  I am proud to say I was able to collect just over seven boxes, and was able to donate to a few other causes than I had originally planned. In May, I was able to work with Build-a-Bear and send a few boxes of animals to Oklahoma for the tornado relief efforts. I was also able to give some bears to my grandma who dresses them and donates them to children with cancer around the holiday season. This past week I gave the remaining four boxes to the Station One Firehouse in Inver Grove Heights. These animals will go with emergency response teams to help children in situations similar to the one I was in many years ago. No matter which cause they went to, I know all these stuffed animals will work their magic and bring comfort to children who need it most.
