The 21st Annual Susan G. Komen Twin Cities Race for the Cure

The 21st Annual Susan G. Komen Twin Cities Race for the Cure (held Mother’s Day, May 12th) honored those affected by breast cancer, while raising money for research and preliminary treatment programs. From the registration fees and donations raised in the Susan G. Komen Twin Cities Race for the Cure, 75 percent will stay in Minnesota to help those in need in their fight against breast cancer. The remaining 25 percent of proceeds fund breast cancer research programs. Helping keep the Susan G. Komen for the Cure promise: to save lives and end breast cancer forever.

This service project was very close to my heart for many reasons. We formed the team “Bosom Buddies” in celebration of my mom and the other breast cancer survivors in my family. I was amazed by the number of people around us on the streets. Despite the chilly weather, this year approximately 50,000 participants spent their Mother’s Day at the Mall of America walking and celebrating with their loved ones. I had a great time, and met many inspiring people along the way to the finish line including a 26-year survivor. Every corner on the route had a theme such as “hug your mom”.  At the “hug your survivor” corner my sisters and I pretty much tackle-hugged our mom at the same time.  A special way to spend a special day with my mom on Mother’s Day!!
