Guardians in Blue

While I was out walking this morning, I came upon a police cruiser stationed off the road watching traffic. I had to walk up to and around the cruiser. As I came around to the driver's side, I looked at the officer inside, smiled, waved, said good morning and continued on my way.
I didn't think much about it until I was back in my studio and that officer's face came back in my mind. It made me think. Really think about how often I take what our Law Enforcement Officers do for granted. How they are over worked, underpaid, very often ridiculed for the split second decisions they make and the continual physical and emotional roller coaster they go through while on the job.
These men and women are held to very high standards. That's good right? Ever wonder what it would feel like to do their job for a day, even a few hours? Sign up to go on a ride-along. let me tell you, those hours that I spent with my officer was an experience I will never forget. I learned lessons about professionalism, duty, respect and humanness.
Then, when I saw the Officer this morning. I saw the look of dedication and humanness in his eyes and I realized how quickly I had forgotten.
So, I am writing today to remind myself, not to forget, not to take the Inver Grove Heights Police Officers for granted. To give them a smile and thank them for what they do when I see them. If they need help, to go and be of service. And, last but not least, keep them in my thoughts and prayers, for they are my Guardians in Blue.
