Anoka Man Gets 20 Years For 'Brutal' Inver Grove Heights Beating

David Eugene Nelson, Jr. was convicted of eight total felonies and sentenced for stalking, first-degree burglary and kidnapping.

A 49-year-old Anoka man ex-girlfriend last July was sentenced to 20 years in prison on May 3.

David Eugene Nelson, Jr. was convicted of eight total felonies and sentenced to 18 months for stalking, 240 months for first-degree burglary and 117 months for kidnapping. 

Dakota County District Court Judge Karen Asphaug ran Nelson's sentences concurrently, or overlapping, meaning he is required to serve only the duration of the longest term.

Asphaug also ordered Nelson to pay restitution to the victim in the amount of $2,072.70 from his prison wages. 

Asphaug did not pronounce sentence on four of Nelson's charges.

Police say as she left her apartment July 27, pushed her back inside, knocked her down and beat her until she passed out. He then grabbed her purse and then fleeing the apartment, leaving her bleeding in a hallway.

The woman was treated at Regions Hospital where she received 32 staples to close the wounds to her head.
