Blotter: Drunk Man Uses Woodpile for Target Practice

Domestic abuse, disorderly conduct and burglaries recorded in the Inver Grove Heights police reports for Aug. 6-12

Aug. 1

12 a.m.—Police responded to a report of a burglary on the 8300 block of Argenta Trail. The victim told officers that someone stole more than $1,000 worth of welding equipment, tools and copper wire from his garage. The service door of the garage was in poor condition, and the homeowner was unable to secure it. The homeowner also said a woman in a black car had parked in his driveway and started digging through one of his dumpsters a week before the burglary.

Aug. 6

12:30 a.m.—Police responded to a disorderly conduct incident on the 6800 block of Cloman Ave. E. Several witnesses at a house said another man at the house had been acting aggressively after they asked him to turn down his radio. Police cornered the man in a stairwell, but the man resisted arrest, nearly causing the police officer to fall down the stairs. Police were able to get the man outside of the house, where he continued to resist arrest until police handcuffed him. A preliminary breath test indicated the man had a blood-alcohol level of .288. He was cited for disorderly conduct and obstructing the legal process.

7:03 p.m.—Police responded to a fireworks call on the 3900 block of 78th St. E.

Aug. 7

3:38 a.m.—Emergency crews responded to a structure fire at 11278 Rich Valley Boulevard. For more details, .

8:50 p.m.—Several officers responded to the 9600 block of Inver Grove Trail E. on reports of gunfire in the neighborhood. Police spoke with a 50-year-old man who appeared to be intoxicated. The man told officers that he had been firing a handgun at a woodpile. Police found several shell casings on the ground near where the man was standing. Officers confiscated the man's handgun and administered a preliminary breath test, which indicated the man had a blood-alcohol level of .116. The man was cited for reckless discharge of a firearm.

9:48 p.m.—Police responded to a domestic assault/disorderly conduct incident along 7th Ave. S. A 45-year-old woman told officers that her ex-husband punched her in the arm after a dispute over how he treats her in front of their children. Police noticed a fresh bruise on her arm. When they spoke to the man, he denied involvement and became verbally aggressive. Police arrested him and transported him to jail.

Aug. 9

6 p.m.—Police responded to reports of a burglary on the 1800 block of 52nd St. E.

Aug. 10

12:10 a.m.—Several officers responded to a reports of a disturbance of the peace on the 4800 block of Ashley Lane. The caller told officers that she heard yelling, a "slap" and crying in the apartment above her. Police knocked on the door of the apartment, and an "enraged" male flung upon the door and began yelling at the officers. Officers handcuffed the man and spoke to a woman, who told them she wasn't crying and had a cold. She also denied being abused. Police saw no visible signs of an altercation and released the man. 

8 a.m.—Police responded to a report of a burglary on the 8100 block of River Road.

2:30 p.m.—Police responded to a report of prescription fraud on the 9100 block of Broderick Blvd.

Aug. 11

10:10 p.m.—Police responded to a report of a burglary on the 9500 block of South Robert Trl.

7:12 p.m.—Police responded to a report of a domestic assault on the 8600 block of Bechtel Ave. Upon their arrival, police spoke with a noticeably upset woman who said she and her boyfriend got into a physical altercation when she told him she was going to leave with their child. While an officer was speaking with the woman, her boyfriend's mother came out of the house and began yelling at police and the woman. Officers noted that the mother appeared to be intoxicated and handcuffed her and placed her in a squad car to limit the disturbance she was causing. Officers took photos of the victim's injuries and then put out a "pick-up and hold" call on the boyfriend.
