Celebrate Your Irish Heritage In and Around Inver Grove Heights

Even if you're Irish only one day a year, there are plenty of ways to celebrate. But, local and statewide law enforcement agencies are asking you to do so responsibly.

It’s been said that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.

If that is true, there are plenty of ways to celebrate your heritage in, as well as near, Inver Grove Heights today.

A number of local establishments, many of which were included in Patch's recent , are offering St. Patrick’s Day-geared events and refreshment specials today.

• B-52 will offer a special menu with Irish items and $3 green pints of Michelob Golden Light. They also will host the second annual St. Patrick's Day party bus, a shuttle that takes customers on a St. Patrick's Day bar crawl through St. Paul.

• Jersey’s is offering a special breakfast, drink specials throughout the day, a corned beef and cabbage dinner and music.

PARADES, PARADES, PARADES

For those of us who enjoy parades, there are a number being conducted within a short drive of Inver Grove Heights.

• The 46th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade through downtown St. Paul kicks off at noon. The parade, which follows Fifth Street between Wall Street and Rice Park, will feature more than 160 units.

This year’s event will have an Inver Grove Heights feel, as Inver Grove’s own, Joe Bennett, will serve in the role of . According to the St. Patrick’s Association website, Mr. Pat is the “king figure” of the parade. “Mr. Pat embodies the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day,” says the website.

• At 6:30 p.m., the St. Patrick’s Day Association of Minneapolis will kick off its 43rd annual parade on the Nicollet Mall, between 13th and Fifth streets.

According to its website, the Minneapolis St. Patrick’s Day parade has “grown to become one of the most celebrated parades in Minneapolis.”

NO BLARNEY—EXTRA DWI PATROLS ON ST. PATRICK’S DAY

Local, county and state law enforcement officers will be out in force this weekend to prevent alcohol-related crashes as part of its “No Blarney—Extra DWI Patrols on St. Patrick’s Day” enforcement effort.

According to Minnesota Department of Public Safety statistics, St. Patrick's Day is the second deadliest holiday period on state roadways.
