A 46-year-old South St. Paul man remains in custody in Dakota County Jail after police say he punched, strangled and threatened to kill a woman and her children on the evening of May 29.

West St. Paul police located Timothy John Stone inside a tent at Thompson Park after the alleged victim escaped and contacted authorities. Stone was later charged with two felonies—domestic assault by strangulation and terroristic threats—and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault.

Stone and the alleged victim began arguing after spending the day drinking alcohol and fishing. According to the complaint, Stone became enraged at other fisherman keeping fish he perceived to be too small.

Upon returning to their camp in Thompson Park, Stone took out his rage on the alleged victim by punching her in the temple and strangling her with a twine noose.

The complaint says Stone tightened the noose around the woman's neck until she felt her airway being cut off. She began struggling with Stone once she started having trouble breathing. He then dragged her out of the tent.

While the woman was being strangled, Stone allegedly told her he was going to kill her, her family and his own children. The woman told police he also threatened to burn her eye with a cigarette.

After the woman escaped Stone's grasp, he allegedly laughed about the situation and passed out in the tent.

At the time of his arrest Stone denied having an altercation with the woman and told police he didn't know how the marks on her neck appeared.

Stone is scheduled to appear at an omnibus hearing on June 26. If convicted of the most serious charge—terroristic threats—Stone could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
