Hessler’s vehicle was reportedly stopped by police for speeding. When questioned by an officer, Hessler said he did not have insurance information.
The officer allegedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A second officer arrived at the scene, and the car was searched. The officers allegedly found three bags containing a total of 39.81 grams of marijuana behind the center console and under a cup holder, and a digital scale and a suspected marijuana pipe under where the cup holder had been.

The marijuana and scale were tested at the St. Paul Police Department Crime Lab, which discovered a mixture of cocaine and THC on the scale.
Hessler has been charged with four crimes, including felony fifth-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance-prior conviction. He was convicted of illegal possession of marijuana in 2010.
Other charges against Hessler include failure to produce proof of insurance and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a petty misdemeanor.
If convicted of the felony, Hessler faces up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to $20,000.
