IGH Woman Threatened to Slit Officer's Throat, Stab Him in the Ear, Police Say

Police officers attempting to help an Inver Grove Heights resident caught outside in freezing temperatures allegedly got nothing but violence and verbal threats in return for their assistance.

Kaylee Michelle Miller, 19, was charged with one felony count of terroristic threats, one gross misdemeanor count of fouth-degree assault, one gross misdemeanor count of obstructing the legal process and one gross misdemeanor count of giving false information to the police. If convicted on the terroristic threats charge, Miller could face a maximum of five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Jan. 5, Eagan police were dispatched to a restaurant on Nicols Road on a report of an intoxicated driver. An officer located the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who was sober, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Dakota County Attorney's Office.

The driver allegedly told police she was searching for her friend, who fled from a nearby bar wearing nothing but a tank top and jeans, despite temperatures below freezing. The friend was later identified as Miller.

The officer traced fresh footprints in the snow and eventually located Miller sitting on the ground in a wooded area near some radio towers, according to the complaint.

Seeing that Miller was wet from the snow and concerned for her safety, the officer asked Miller to stand up, but Miller allegedly didn't reply. The officer then repeated his request several times, according to the criminal complaint.

The officer continued to ask Miller questions, and told her that she needed to get someone warm immediately, according to the complaint. When other Eagan officers arrived, police made the decision to physically move Miller.

When police attempted to move Miller, she allegedly kicked an officer twice in the chest and then began to struggle. Police handcuffed her and walked her to a squad car, according to the complaint.

Once she was in the squad car, however, police say Miller began yelling obscenities and threats at an officer. Miller allegedly told the officer that she would stab his ear with a needle; she also specifically described how she would cut the officer's throat. Police say she repeatedly told the officer she was going to kill him, and gave police false names when they tried to identify her.

Miller was eventually transported to the Dakota County Jail. Miller was released from jail on Jan. 8. Her next court date is scheduled for April 8.
