Inver Grove Heights Man Charged After Police Say He Hit Another With His Van

An Inver Grove Heights man has been charged with criminal vehicular operation and driving drunk after police say he backed into a friend with his car and pinned him inside his garage, breaking the man’s leg.

Scott Kevin Dally, 53, is charged with two gross misdemeanors and four misdemeanors in connection with the incident last Friday.

According to court documents, Dally went to his friend’s house to help him split wood Friday evening. He told police that he had been drinking and had consumed “three or four beers” earlier in the day, and that he and his friend continued drinking beer while they chopped wood.

Dally told police that he didn’t see his friend when he backed up his van. Authorities say he hit the victim and pushed him backward into a car parked inside the garage, pinning him between the two vehicles. Dally told police that he “didn’t mean to hurt him,” according to court documents.

The victim was found lying on the garage floor when police arrived. He suffered a broken leg and other injures, which required hospitalization and surgery, court documents say.

A preliminary breath test on Dally showed that he had a blood-alcohol content of .236, almost three times the legal limit.

Dally was previously convicted of DUI and DWI in 1996 and 2008. He remains in the Dakota County Jail on a $12,000 bond; an omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled for Aug. 18.
