UPDATED: Electrocution Victim a Business Owner in Inver Grove Heights

A 51-year-old Inver Grove Heights man died on Monday, Aug, 15 after he was electrocuted while doing siding work on the South Fridley Apartments complex.

A 51-year-old Inver Grove Heights man died from electrocution injuries he got while working on a building along 52nd Avenue in Fridley on Monday.

The Pioneer Press reported that the victim was Rich Hennen, the owner of Hennen Siding in Inver Grove Heights. Hennen was riding a lift when his neck hit a live Xcel Energy power line, according to teh report. Fridley Police Capt. Brian Weierke said he was doing siding work on the South Fridley Apartments near LiveInn Suites when the incident occurred.

The Fridley Police Department was called to the scene at 2:19 p.m. When officers got there, they found Hennen had been electrocuted  while working on the upper area of the building.

First responders tried to help the victim, who was transported to Unity Hospital in critical condition but later died of his injuries, according to a press release issued by the department. Police and fire departments from Columbia Heights and Fridley as well as other emergency responders were all at the scene.

A Fridley police officer was injured while trying to save the victim, according to Weierke. The police officer was transported to Unity Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The accident remains under investigation of the Fridley Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and OSHA. Investigators are looking into how Hennen was hit with the wire, where the wire came from and what went wrong with the security of the line.
