Inver Grove Heights Police Looking For Citizen's Academy Applicants

The 2011 Citizen's Academy runs from September to November and will give area residents an introduction to police work in the community.

Sign up for the Inver Grove Heights Police Department's 2011 Citizen's Academy, and get an inside look at the operations of the department. This fall, the department will hold weekly academy sessions from 6pm to 9pm every Thursday. The sessions begin in early September and end in mid-November and will cover a wide spectrum of topics, including the history of the police department; functions of department units like the bike patrol, investigations team and domestic abuse response team; a review of typical calls for service, a DWI demonstration, officer survival and use of force, among other topics.

The academy classes will be taught by Inver Grove Heights and South St. Paul Police Officers. After the successful completion of this program, area residents will be given an opportunity to ride along with an Inver Grove Heights police officer for four hours during his or her shift.

If you are interested in participating in the citizen’s academy, fill out an application form and return it to the Inver Grove Heights Police Department no later than Friday, August 12. The class size is limited to 15, so  please register early if you are interested. Questions or comments can be forwarded to Sgt.
