Inver Grove Heights Man Accused of Forging Car Tab

A 38-year-old Inver Grove Heights man has been charged with a felony for allegedly forging a registration tab for his vehicle’s license plate.
Wayne James Matier is charged with aggravated forgery, which is punishable by up to 10 years in jail and a fine of between $6,000 and $10,000.

According to a Dakota County criminal complaint released this week:
Matier was driving in the area of Hampton Boulevard and 230th Street in Hampton on Sept. 20, 2012, when his car was stopped by a Dakota County Sheriff’s deputy, who learned the car’s license plate registration had expired.

When the deputy approached the car, he allegedly noticed that the license plate tab was deteriorating. He reportedly discovered that the plate tab was made of laminated paper. State plate tabs are printed on weatherproof stickers.
In addition, the tab information allegedly did not belong to Matier’s vehicle.
During an interview with a sheriff’s department investigator, Matier allegedly admitted that he made the plates tab and used information from a co-worker’s vehicle.
