After speaking with the victim’s mother, the friends called 911 to request an officer to check on their friend’s welfare.

Upon arriving at the apartment in the 1400 block of Upper 55th Street East, Inver Grove Heights police heard a woman screaming and witnessed the victim run out of the residence and hide behind an officer, the complaint stated.

After police arrested Lewis, the victim stated that once the couple arrived home, Lewis grabbed her by the throat and dragged her out of the car and into the residence. She also told police Lewis choked her and shook her while inside the residence.

Lewis is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 10. He is not currently being held in the Dakota County Jail.

If given the maximum sentence, Lewis faces three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
