Man Arrested by IGH Police, Charged with Felony Drug Crime

Joshua Anthony Winje, 25, is facing up to 30 years in jail and up to a $1 million fine for allegedly carrying more than 40 grams of meth in his backpack.

A 25-year-old man was charged with a felony drug crime after Inver Grove Heights Police officers allegedly discovered more than 40 grams of methamphetamine in a backpack he was carrying.

Inver Grove Heights Police arrested Joshua Anthony Winje after investigating a report of yelling coming from a second-floor apartment on Audobon Avenue at about 11:35 p.m. Jan. 2.

When police officers arrived at the apartment, they heard a man and woman yelling and a child crying inside. In a common area near the apartment, they found a bag of suspected marijuana and a digital scale.

Eventually, the door to the apartment was flung open by Winje, who allegedly appeared agitated and sweating. Officers asked him to stop and talk to them, but he walked by. They eventually grabbed Winje’s arm to stop him.

Officers allegedly smelled the odor of marijuana coming from Winje, who reportedly admitted he was carrying a small amount of the drug.

Winje allegedly continued to resist police instructions, so officers handcuffed him. Eventually, he allegedly told officers that the marijuana in the common area was his. Then, during a search of Winje, officers allegedly discovered the backpack, which reportedly contained 42.99 grams of methamphetamine in a plastic bag, as well as a digital scale and $801 in cash.

Winje was charged with Controlled Substance Crime in the First Degree. If convicted, he is facing up to 30 years in jail and a fine of up to $1 million.
