Man Charged with Strangling Girlfriend
Devonte Thomas, 18, is being held in the Dakota County Jail on two felony charges and a misdemeanor. The alleged assault took place in Inver Grove Heights last week.
An 18-year-old Inver Grove Heights man remains in custody in the Dakota County Jail after allegedly strangling and hitting his girlfriend in Inver Grove Heights last week.
Devonte Thomas Love has been charged with two felony counts—domestic assault by strangulation and domestic assault—as well as misdemeanor underage consumption.
He is being held on $5,000 bail.

According to Dakota County District Court documents:
Inver Grove Heights Police were called to a residence on Audobon Avenue at about 10:44 a.m. March 6 to investigate an alleged domestic assault. The victim reportedly told police that her boyfriend and father of her child, Love, came to her residence intoxicated and she asked him to leave. He refused. A fight ensued, and Love allegedly pulled her hair, punched her and tightened his arm around her neck.

Love allegedly left the residence before police arrived. Police located him behind a nearby building and arrested him. Love reportedly told police he had drank “a pint of cheap vodka."
Court documents say Love has a prior adjudication for fifth-degree assault in February 2011—before he turned 18—in Ramsey County.
Love made his first court appearance on March 8 and is scheduled for a omnibus hearing in Dakota County District Court in Hastings on April 3.
