Man Who Fired Shots at Inver Grove Heights Police Sentenced to 17 Years
The West St. Paul man was convicted in July in connection with the 2012 shooting.
Justin Thadeus Amick, age 41 of West St. Paul, was sentenced today to 206 months in prison by Dakota County Judge Michael Mayer in connection with shooting at a police officer in Inver Grove Heights on March 18, 2012.
A Dakota County Jury convicted Amick on July 17, 2013 of one count each of Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree and Ineligible Person in Possession of a Firearm (all felonies).
Amick was acquitted of two counts each of Attempted Murder in the First Degree (Intent to Kill a Peace Officer) and Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, as well as one count each of Assault in the First Degree and Assault in the Second Degree on a second police officer.

“I am pleased that this lengthy prison term was handed down against this person who attempted to harm law enforcement officers in our community,” said Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom.
Backstrom praised Assistant County Attorney Heather Pipenhagen, who prosecuted the case. Backstrom thanked the Inver Grove Heights police officers who responded and the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office who assisted in this case for their thorough investigation.
